Really good for the money.  I have been eating at this location for the last ten years. It used to be on the other side of the parking lot.

My only problem with this place is that it is really dirty. I think that most of the regulars have been turned off as well as this place is dead whenever you go.

They need to give this place a paint, clean the floors and for god sakes clean the tables they are sticky. Gross...

Having had a good experience with Sushi Train on Pembina, it was time to try another location.

Parking is available in front, in the nice large lot.

There may be outdoor seating out here, but I couldn't tell as area in front of the restaurant was completely buried in shoulder-deep snow.  I wish I were joking.  See picture.

Just like Pembina, the staff were legit Japanese (yay!), and friendly.

The interior looks rather dated here, but I think that has more to do with the wood paneling above the bar seating, as well as the pale yellow paint.

    I had the sampler.

Salmon sushi - excellent.  Fish may be farmed though, as it had white ridges.

Octopus (taki) sushi - fresh, and not too gummy.

BC roll - a bit smaller than expected, but nice crispy fish skin.

Hanabi roll - this one was really strange.  Strips of bell peppers do not mix well inside a sushi roll.  This is the one item I would unfortunately not recommend.

Wasabi freak roll - disappointing, because I was hoping to get my sinuses cleared.  Didn't happen.  Tasted fine though.

Spider roll - nothing like sacrificing some poor soft-shelled crab to one's stomach.  Nice and light batter.  Yummy.

All of the above came to just over $33 before tax and tip - a bit on the pricey end, but hey, this is Winnipeg.

I would definitely consider coming back next time for Japanese goodness.  Recommended.

Poor service with poorly rolled sushi makes a poorly run establishment.

Went once before and notified them up front we were in a bit of a rush. They seated us then ignored us had to flag them down to get a drink order.

After all that they then ignored us again and served a table that came in after us both their drinks and food. We flagged them down again to get our order in, this order of xoure the came late because the table they served before us was 10 people.

After all this the food came to the table cold and we had to box it and leave, they made no concessions for us what so ever.

I will not be returning ever, too many good sushi spots in the area to go to one as sub part as this.

Don't waste your time if you are looking for a Japanese experience. I've eaten here a few times in the past but tonight's experience will send me looking elsewhere everytime I think of Japanese food. Tea came hot enough but not in a pot with tea leaves. I like my tea to the strong side and having the tea 'pre-brewed' and dispensed by the hostess is not 'my cup of tea' (pun intended). I ordered tempura and chicken katsu with tempura veggies with a bowl of rice (all from the a la carte menu). Tempura perfect - squash, yam, zucchini, carrot, green beans, asparagus, broccoli (no onion or mushroom by my request). Katsu crispy and properly prepared. Rice...cold (coming out of a cooker, this should never happen) and dressed with vinegar for use in sushi. When I asked the only server/hostess if I could have plain steamed rice, she replied that there was none available because 'this is a sushi restaurant'. Actually, I checked on the signage outside as we left, and it read "Sushi Train Japanese Restaurant". So...no rice. After that discussion, we had to ask for a container to take some leftovers home with us and ask for our pot of tea to be refilled. Needless to say, there was no tip. I have family members who have long histories in the restaurant business, both front and back of house. They would have always done anything a customer asked, even if they already knew the answer. If a customer asks for something, just go back in the kitchen and ask. The worst that can happen is the kitchen says No. Humour me...my tips give you a decent living (and I tip very well for good service 20-30%).
